Garbage Pail Kids: A Collector Introduction

A distinctive 1980s card series

Topps introduced Garbage Pail Kids in 1985. The painted cards paired grotesque visual jokes with punning character names and were issued with sticker fronts. The first Original Series established characters that remain central to the franchise.

Paired names and variations

Many artworks were issued under two names, commonly cataloged with “a” and “b” card numbers. Backs, checklists, print details, and other production variations can also distinguish cards that share the same front artwork.

Cataloging a card

Record the card number and letter, character name, set or series, manufacturer, back design, variation, centering, corners, edges, surface, and whether the sticker has been peeled.
